Dear Listener,
The otherworldly Superbowl XLIV alone was a good enough time to last New Orleans all the way through 2010 — we should just start working right now on feeling half that good in 2011. And that live broadcast on ‘OZ two weeks ago from the Grammy Museum had us floating too, with fiercely brilliant performances by Louisiana Grammy nominees like CC Adcock and Zachary Richard.
But we're relentless here, and we've got Mardi Gras, French Quarter Fest and Jazz Fest all creating their own out-of-body experiences, which will reach the entire globe via WWOZ.org. As if that weren't enough, this year we're splicing in South-by-Southwest in March and the Washington D.C. Jazz Festival in June.
Maybe you'll hear these on your WWOZ iPhone App or catch it virally via the new ‘OZ Facebook App. But best of all is using your WWOZ Body App to come join us at the forthcoming festivities — not to mention our February 20 outreach in Gretna. And don't miss out on the last 2 days of $400 'OZ Brass Passes for Jazz Fest... prices go up February 19.
Yours in hat tricks and onside kicks,
David Freedman
General Manager

Show Host Spotlight: Billy Delle
WWOZ would be nothing without our army of volunteer show hosts, and this month we salute Billy Delle, who has brought you the best of 1950s New Orleans Rhythm & Blues for 28 years on “Records from the Crypt.” We’ve put together a retrospective of the man and his passion for music, as well as a slideshow of some crucial moments in Billy’s long career at ‘OZ. Tune in each Wednesday evening to hear Delle’s unmistakable voice as he lifts the lid off the crypt to bring you some of our city’s most treasured music.

Haiti: Crisis In Progress
The next few months are critical to helping Haiti get back on its feet after the devastating January 12 earthquake. We applaud all those who have lent a hand both here at home and on the ground in Haiti, notably club owner “Negril Bil” Szarabajka and the 24 bands that donated their time to raise money for Haiti. There is still much work to be done, though. Please visit our Haiti Relief page for more information about how you can help, as well as up-to-date list of upcoming benefit events and relief efforts right here in New Orleans.

February Recipe: Roasted Eggplant and Oysters
In Louisiana, fresh oysters are available all year ‘round, though they tend to be even more popular in the winter. This month’s recipe for roasted eggplant and oysters comes from Chef Joe Heacook, the Culinary Department Head at Sowela Technical Community College in Lake Charles. If you like the recipe, then check out Louisiana Cookin' magazine. Subscribe with the promotion code wwoz2010, and they'll donate $5 to WWOZ.
